Install Windows Search | Seach your computer faster
XP’s built-in search tool is snail-slow, especially when compared to the Vista equivalent which can find any file or folder almost immediately (it works by indexing the hard disk, so it knows where everything is located in advance). A new, even quicker version of this search tool has just been released and the good news is that it’s also available for XP from Microsoft, Windows Search 4.0. The program replaces the existing search feature and adds a search box to the Taskbar. Results are displayed as you type and files found can be previewed and opened. Set the areas of your hard drive you want it to monitor. It can even index content stored on multiple PCs across a network.
